frequently asked questions
Does BerylStone have a minimum account size?
No. However, most of our clients have liquid assets of $250,000 or more.
Does your firm take custody of the funds?
No. BerylStone has master account agreements in place with unaffiliated custodial firms. These firms provide securities clearing and accounting services for BerylStone clients on a separate account basis. We believe this approach provides important checks and balances that are in the best interests of our clients.
Do you have a preferred custodian?
Most of our clients use Scottrade for custodial services. We have found Scottrade to be reliable with very reasonable fees. If your investment accounts are with a different custodian, we can arrange for an asset transfer to Scottrade.
How does BerylStone charge fees?
We charge management fees in arrears on a quarterly basis. Our fees are determined based on total assets under management during the quarter. We do not charge account fees, maintenance fees, nor do we charge commissions or sales loads on securities transactions.
How is investment performance measured?
We use a sophisticated software package from Morningstar to calculate portfolio returns net of fees and expenses over any time period requested. We provide performance reports to all of our clients on a monthly basis that include detailed return attribution, cash flow, and benchmark analysis.
Who manages the portfolios?
Scott H. Bryant, CFA, manages client portfolios at BerylStone in collaboration with ideas and recommendations from the firm's registered representatives.
Does BerylStone provide tax and legal services?
No. However, we do work with a network of local professional advisors to arrange for tax and legal advice for our clients if they request it.
How long will it take to set up my accounts with BerylStone?
The initial policy statement, investment recommendation report and transfer of assets usually take two to three weeks after the investment management agreements have been signed.
Can you provide specific investment recommendations on a consulting basis?
Yes. We will review your existing investments and provide investment recommendations for a one-time fee of $750. If you choose to become a BerylStone client, your initial one-time fee will be credited back to your account.
Creating your POrtfolio

initial consultation
During the first consultation, we determine if our services are a good match for your financial needs. Through our consultative process, we develop an understanding of your unique circumstances, financial goals and risk tolerances.
Development of Personal Investment Policy Statement
After the first consultation, we prepare a detailed investment policy statement for your review and approval. Through this policy, we establish the guidelines for the day-to-day management of your account. While we are preparing the investment policy statement, we are also arranging all of the paperwork necessary for new custodial accounts and asset transfers (if needed).
Monthly Performance and Risk Updates
Each month you will receive updated risk and performance reports through your client web portal. These reports will have detailed information about your investment returns, asset allocations and cash flows.
On-going Client Objectives Review
We will periodically review your investment policy statement with you to make sure that your investments continue to be consistent with your financial objectives. During this review process we provide: estimated long-term risks and returns; cash flow projections; and portfolio scenario analysis.
